James Kurella
I'm an oil painter living in Columbus Ohio, graduate of Kenyon College with a BA in Studio Arts where I studied color theory, figure painting, and printmaking. After college, I painted the figure through 2004, when I switched to working in abstracts. 2015 brought me back to working with the figure in oils, something I relish. Recently I have been experimenting with printmaking, revisiting some of the techniques I had learned in college with relief printing on Linoleum and with Wood Blocks.
I run a figure painting group that meets weekly at The Vanderelli Room on Sunday Mornings, where we talk about technique, style, and process, while painting from a live model. I am also a co-founder of Printmakers Unanonymous, a print making group that meets monthly to work together, critique, and learn new processes.
