10 ways to artfully distract yourself from politics

It’s a crazy week, and as of this writing, I’m pretty sure that it’s going to stay crazy for a little longer than we may all wish. So, here are 10 events to distract you from the politics/COVID double header that is 2020.

Thursday, Nov. 5

  • Wex[EP]: Snarls, a free virtual event with Columbus-based band Snarls. I’ve heard them on the station formally known as CD102.5 FM, and highly recommend them.
  • My One and Only play Natalie’s Coal Fired Pizza.

Friday, Nov. 6

  • Beethoven 250 Cycle: Symphony number 4 is a free virtual event from the Columbus Symphony that will start streaming at 7:30, Nov. 6.
  • 934 Gallery is opening a new show, Shade: Mother Artists at Work, and once again they are offering a choice between a virtual opening or an in-person appointment (by appointment only, 10 guests at a time).
  • Books & Brews, which is a virtual fundraiser for the Worthington Libraries. It’ll happen via zoom and includes a tasting. Here’s how it works, you pick your price point, pick up your bevies, and tune in for the tasting. Also, I’m assuming you can talk books with fellow book lovers, if that’s your thing—it’s mine so this looks fun to me.

Saturday Nov. 7

Nov. 7 & 8: ProMusica kicks off AutumnFest at The Fives, which will include works by Bach and Respighi. Tickets must be purchased in advance. This is an indoor event. ProMusica had detailed info on their site about their COVID safety/social distancing procedures and The Fives also has online info about their COVID safety precautions (including ventilation information.)

Sunday, Nov. 8: Chamber Music Columbus offers a virtual performance by pianist Joyce Yang.

Ending Sunday Nov. 8: Sequence 01: Diasporic Reckoning, film screening, another free virtual offering form the Wexner center for the Arts.
