Last weekend I was in Washington, D.C. for a conference. Between keynotes and breakout sessions, I managed to carve out time to visit the many museums in the district, including the National Gallery of Art and the National Portrait Gallery. Both feature incredible collections, and both — amazingly — are free!
Those visits have me eager to see more art, so I searched the calendars on ColumbusMakesArt.com to plan out this weekend’s adventures:
- On Thursday, March 5, the King Arts Complex and Gramercy Books host author James McBride to talk about his new book Deacon King Kong.
- A quartet of new theater productions also open this week: Young Frankenstein at the Short North Stage, The Part of Me at Madlab Theatre, the video game-centric Press Start! by CATCO and Gallery Players’ She Loves Me.
- This week Friday, March 6, the Columbus Museum of Art opens its newest exhibition, Art After Stonewall, 1969-1989, exploring the lasting impact of the Stonewall riots of 1969. Catch it through the end of May.
- We’ve long loved Speak Easy, the monthly live storytelling event hosted at Wild Goose Creative. They celebrate 10 years of stories at The Big Easy this Saturday, March 7. Tickets are only $15 to hear great storytellers!
- The always-incredible Adam Hernandez has a new show called Only Bangers up at Lindsay Gallery this month. Perhaps we’ll go see that during Gallery Hop this Saturday, along with (Not) Sheep Gallery’s Altered Perceptions.
- Natalie’s hosts musical tributes for International Women’s Day at both its Worthington and Grandview venues on Sunday, March 8.
This weekend we’ll share our fun with the #artmakescbus hashtag!
