12 places to go for arts fun this weekend

Confession: My house is a mess. I don’t know why, but I feel like I’m always playing catch up and one weekend of cooking leaves it looking destroyed. I mention this because I have a long list of adulty things that I “should” do. But, after checking what’s up this weekend at ColumbusMakesArt.com I don’t want to do anything on that stupid list.

Here is the list that I want to check off this weekend:

  • Red Herring Productions opens the satirical comedy The Thanksgiving Play Thursday, Nov. 4 at the Great Southern Shopping Center.
  • Nov. 4 is also the opening of The Mystery of Forgotten Things, a show of new artwork by artist Stephanie Rond at Sharon Weiss Gallery, which means it will be open for Gallery Hop this Saturday.
  • Speaking of Gallery Hop, Brandt-Roberts also has a new exhibition opening. There’s No Place Like Home features 12 artists who are Ohio born or Ohio residents.
  • Friday Nov. 5, 934 Gallery presents a group show, space/time.
  • On view at Streetlight Guild is Personal Mythologies, a showcase exhibition curated by April Sunami featuring multiple Columbus Black artists. The exhibition is free, however you must schedule a viewing. This is actually awesome. If, like me, you get more out of viewing visual art when there are few human distractions, Streetlight Guild’s set up not only ensures public health safety, but quality, private viewing time.
  • Saturday Nov. 6 and Sunday Nov. 7, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra presents Vadim & Friends at the Southern Theater.
  • The Columbus Museum of Art is celebrating Dia De Los Muertos, Nov. 6, with $5 admission all day, live music, art activities and a special menu at the Schokko Café.
  • Within walking distance of the museum and also happening on Nov.6, The Phoenix Printmaking Cooperative is hosting its annual print sale. It’s a great opportunity to start that holiday shopping.
  • OSU’s Department of Theater, Film And Media Arts just opened Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull in the Bowen Theater at Drake Center.
