I’ve got cabin fever. Good news: there is SO MUCH on the calendar at ColumbusMakesArt.com—everything from Fincher films at Gateway Film Center to Golden Girl puppets at Lincoln Theatre. Bad news: all these choices make it hard to curate a short list of events for the weekend, but I got the list down to 15. So let’s dive in.
- Thursday, Feb. 10, the Wexner Center for the Arts and OSU’s Department of Dance are presenting the annual DANCE@30FPS, a festival celebrating fusions of filmmaking and choreography from around the world.
- Also in the world of dance: BalletMet presents Edwaard Liang’s Giselle, opening Feb. 11 and running through Feb. 19 at the Davidson Theater in the Riffe Center.
- AND, Columbus Dance Theatre presents Chance to Dance II, which is both an annual benefit and interactive dance experience with a little nosh.
- I LOVE when Gateway does themed series that bring back older movers. Currently they are offering Fincher in February and this week, through Feb. 10, they are showing Se7en, starring Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt and Kevin Spacey. I am of an age to have seen this in the theater when it was originally released, and it remains a creepy favorite. Up next: Feb. 11-17, is The Game starring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn.
- CAPA opened the musical Come From Away at the Ohio Theatre this week and it runs through Feb. 13.
- CAPA is also bringing us That Golden Girls Show! A Puppet Parody—puppet versions of the Golden Girls? Yes please. There are three opportunities to see the show Feb. 11-12 at the Lincoln Theatre.
- Jazz Arts Group is presenting Valentine Romance at the Southern Theatre Feb. 10-13.
- The Mark Lomax Trio is playing at the McConnell Arts Center Feb. 12.
- Columbus-based band Cousin Simple is playing A & R Music Bar Feb. 12.
- Also, quick reminder: it’s a Franklinton Fridays weekend and the Vanderelli Room and Glass Axis have openings Friday, Feb. 11.
Last Call:
Three wonderful live theater productions are wrapping up this weekend. Catch them while you can.
- School Girls: or the African Mean Girls Play, presented by CATCO with set design by Columbus-based artist Lisa McLymont.
- Altar Boyz, presented by Short North Stage.
- One Slight Hitch, presented by Eclipse Theater.
That’s my list, but there is more on the arts calendar at ColumbusMakesArt.com. Get out there and play!
