Happy August! It feels like this month has hit the ground running. Searching through our calendars, I see there’s plenty to do this weekend, including a lot of festivals, concerts, arts hops and new exhibitions:
- Wild Goose Creative's Speak Easy, the live storytelling event, returns to in-person gatherings this Thursday, Aug. 5 – and it’s the first at Wild Goose’s new Franklinton space!
- That same evening, the King Arts Complex hosts the first night of its annual Heritage Music Festival, with Thumpdaddy taking the stage in Mayme Moore Park.
- The What? Music and Arts Festival 2021 returns to Steelton Yards on the south side this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 6-7.
- Madlab’s Young Writers festival opens this Friday, Aug. 6 and runs through Aug. 22.
- All People Arts new exhibition, Divinely Aligned, opens this Friday and runs through the end of October.
- CAPA’s Summer Movie Series continues with Murder on the Orient Express (Aug. 5), A Tale of Two Cities (Aug. 6); Planes, Trains & Automobiles (Aug. 7) and Pinocchio (Aug. 8).
- The first part of the Columbus Women&Girls’Fest is Saturday, Aug. 7 at the MPACC Box Park.
- That Saturday evening is the August Hilltop Art Hop based around 3060 Gallery.
- Also on Saturday you can also join a drum circle at the newly established Poindexter Village Museum & Cultural Center.
- The Bobby Floyd Trio plays on the Worthington Village Green on Sunday, Aug. 8.
- And finally, on Aug. 8 the Ohio Craft Museum opens a new exhibition called Crossover: Trends in Paper. It’s curated by Char Norman and features paper works by 11 different artists.
Gallery Hop is this Saturday, Aug. 7. Look for new exhibitions opening that night:
- Water and Cake at (Not) Sheep Gallery. (The gallery will also host Rock Salt & Nails in concert that night.)
- Salon Show at Sharon Weiss Gallery
- Brandt-Roberts’ Summer Series III features Jeffrey Hirst and Marco Querin.
- Studios on High hosts its annual Hit the Hop juried exhibition.
And there’s plenty more, from musicals and plays to outdoor concerts, ongoing exhibitions and author. Find it all on ColumbusMakesArt.com!
