Nicholas Dekker is the administrator for the Arts Council’s Marketing, Communication and Events team, assisting with the Columbus Makes Art campaign, the Columbus Arts Festival and everything in-between. He’s also deeply involved in the exciting world of online event database management, serving as the admin for the Ohio Event Finder, the state-wide database of Ohio arts and cultural events.
When not working with the Arts Council, Nick is a freelance food and travel writer, running his award-winning food/travel site Breakfast With Nick since 2007. He also writes for Ohio Magazine, Columbus Monthly, Experience Columbus, TourismOhio, and other publications.
Nick is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, having earned Bachelor’s in both English and Communication Arts & Sciences from Calvin College. He also holds an MA and Ph.D. in theatre history and dramatic literature from The Ohio State University, where he taught as a lecturer in the Department of Theatre through 2014. During his years teaching, he slowly convinced students to call him “Dr. Breakfast.”
He, his wife Beth, and their two boys live in Worthington and enjoy everything the city has to offer: food, drink, parks, the arts, sports. Beth is executive director of Experience Worthington. Nick sits on the board of the McConnell Arts Center and Service! Relief Kitchen. They are founding members of the community arts non-profit Wild Goose Creative, where they served as board members until 2012.
