In anticipation of writing this post, I hit up the events section of ColumbusMakesArt.com to see what’s up this weekend, and quickly found that the Wexner Center is screening the cult classic Rock ‘n’ Roll High School on March 15. Three things immediately happened—my brain made a silly Ides of March joke (or Joke-ish), I started humming the Ramones' Rock ‘n’ Roll High School and I found my first must-go-to event for the weekend.
Music seems to be a theme this week. From the blues to classical to Indian to a singalong, there’s a lot going on this weekend in the world of tunage:
- Nothing but the Blues, featuring Omar Colemand & Joel Frahm with Jazz Arts Group, is at the Southern Theatre March 14-17.
- Honey & Blue are playing at Natalie’s Coal Fired Pizza, Friday March 15.
- Columbus Symphony brings us the Nordic Myths Festival as part of their Masterworks Series, March 15 & 16 at the Ohio Theatre.
- Saturday, March 16, Raag Taal: Indian classical music and dance is at Worthington’s McConnell Arts Center.
- And, Sunday tune up your signing voice at the Ohio Theatre for the free Mighty Morton organ concert and singalong—to celebrate the 91st birthday of the Ohio Theatre.
And for a little variety, head over to Franklinton by March 29 to catch Sarah Weinstock: A Self Portrait at 40, which opened at the Vanderelli Room last week.
These are a handful of events to March out and enjoy (see what I did there). You can find more at ColumbusMakeArt.com and share your artsy experiences with #artmakescbus.
