Does everyone get that joke? “It’s the day of the show, y’all.” Parker Posey’s character says it in Waiting for Guffman as their community theater production hits a snag the morning of the show. Anytime it’s the day/week/month of a big event, inevitably this phrase comes to mind.
Even though we’re ramping up into the busiest parts of the holiday season, I can see Columbus arts orgs are still active this week. Here’s what I found on ColumbusMakesArt.com:
- State of the Arts Productions performs A Very Special Holiday, a collection of short plays, Dec. 22-23 and 29-30.
- The Greater Columbus Convention Center opens Michelangelo: A Different View, an exhibition that uses large-scale photographs of the Sistine Chapel frescoes. It opens Wednesday, Dec. 22 and runs through Jan. 23.
- The Trans-Siberian Orchestra will visit Nationwide Arena to perform two shows on Sunday, Dec. 26 at 3 and 8 p.m. I’ve never seen one of their concerts, but I’ve heard they’re a blast.
Several events are wrapping up this week, too (end dates are in parentheses):
- There’s No Place Like Home at Brandt-Roberts (Dec. 23)
- A Christmas Story: The Musical from Columbus Children’s Theatre (Dec. 23)
- The Phoenix Rising Printmaking Cooperative group show at Emergent Art & Craft (Dec. 24)
- BalletMet’s The Nutcracker (Dec. 26)
- Sharon Weiss Gallery’s two exhibitions, a holiday miniature show and a salon show of gallery artists (Dec. 26)
Finally, 3060 Gallery in the Hilltop is set to close at the end of this year. They’re open by appointment this week if you need to shop their Holiday Artisan Market, and their last regular open hours will be Christmas Eve from 9 a.m. to noon.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, all the good cheer to you this season! Stay safe and have fun!
