If I am being totally honest, what I really want to do this time of year is hibernate. If anything is going to pull me out of my cave it’s the arts so I head to ColumbusMakesArt.com to see what’s up. Here’s what has me perking up for the weekend:
Tonight (Wednesday, Jan. 25) Lil’ Red & the Rooster play a free happy hour show on Charlie’s Stage at Natalie’s. This dynamic duo were 2019 International Blues Challenge Finalist. Of course Natalie’s always has a full and wonderful line up of live music: There’s more blues during Thursdays happy hour with Colin John (also on Charlie’s Stage), Friday, Jan. 27, brings Kyshona to Charlie’s stage and Sunday The Ruta Beggars play the Music Hall Stage.
Thursday, Jan. 26:
- The Wexner Center for the Arts is showing Vital Signs: Short Films at the End of Life in their film/video theater.
- Gateway Film Center is screening All the President’s Men (1976) as part of their Journalism on Film series.
- The Short North Stage opens Slave Play by Jeremy O’Harris. As the name makes clear this play may be triggering for some and open up important conversations for others. The theater has contracted with The Ohio Rest Collective to facilitate the talk backs after the Sunday shows and to be on hand for each performance for any audience members that may need them. I strongly recommend spending some time on the Short North Stage’s website to learn more about the play.
Friday, Jan. 27:
- Improv via the Nest Theater’s Commando! show
- The OG Players in the Lincoln Theatre ballroom
- I Am One of Those Animals, and exhibition of ceramic sculptures by Carmen Osterman, opens at the Cultural Arts Center.
- Chamber Music Columbus premier a new work by Mark Lomax, Ph.D., in the beautiful Southern Theatre.
Saturday, Jan. 28:
Those are the events that have me waking up for the weekend, but of course there are tons more. Check out the arts & culture events calendar at ColumbusMakesArt.com to find your next outing.
