With the warmer weather and full days of sunshine, comes more energy and a desire to get out and do all the things. So I hit up the events calendar at ColumbusMakesArt.com
and came up with a list of fun weekend activities:
- Thursday, May 12 MadLab kicks off Theatre Roulette, a live theater shorts festival.
- Friday, May 13, The Floorwalkers play at Natalie’s Grandview.
- Friday, Global Gallery hosts Bears on Unicycles as part of their free spring concert series.
- Opening Friday, with a reception at the Cultural Arts Center is All Hail the Queens, work by Columbus-based painter Lynn Hetherington Backer.
- And just down the street and across the bridge from the Cultural Arts Center, in the Franklinton Arts District: It’s Franklinton Fridays, which includes music, an art hop and the Friendship Flea. Plus, Wild Goose Creative is hosting their May gallery night with Shapeshifter, Original works by Katie Davis.
- Check out a group of truly emerging artists as Columbus College of Art & Design gets ready to send off the class of 2022. Thursday is the always-popular CCAD Fashion Show and Friday is Chroma: Best of CCAD, exhibition.
- May 13 & 14, the Columbus Symphony presents Beethoven 9 at the Ohio Theatre.
- Thiossane West African Dance institute has two events this weekend at the Lincoln Theatre. Saturday is the annual concert performance, which includes traditional West African dance, music in Culture. On Sunday is a screening of the documentary that was produced during their recent pilgrimages to Senegal and The Gambia.
Of course, this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Find plenty more arts and culture events at ColumbusMakesArt.com.
Franklinton Fridays, Global Gallery, MadLab and Thiossane Institute’s annual concert are supported in part by a Greater Columbus Arts Council Project Support grant.
