Happy 2022, friends! I know there’s a lot of apprehension going into this new year. Here’s hoping everyone is able to stay safe and weather the storm. If you feel comfortable and are able, there are still ways you can support the arts this time of year, as there’s plenty going on. Here’s what I found on ColumbusMakesArt.com this week:
- Both the Columbus Museum of Art and the McConnell Arts Center are showing Exhibition on Screen: Sunflowers this week (CMA on Jan. 6 and the MAC on Jan. 7). This fascinating documentary gives you detailed insight into some of the world’s most famous artwork.
- On Thursday, Jan. 6, Sharon Weiss Gallery opens a salon exhibition of gallery artists.
- That same night, the January edition of the Speak Easy live storytelling event takes place at Wild Goose Creative.
- I mean, the title is intriguing… Best. Sex. Ever. opens at Shadowbox Live on Jan. 6 and runs through the end of February.
- The Early Interval performs its annual concert Twelfth Night: Journey to the New World on Friday, Jan. 7 at St. Joseph’s Cathedral.
- And the Columbus Symphony performs the first part of its annual Russian Winter Festival at the Ohio Theatre this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 7-8.
- Also this Friday, Jan. 7, the Cultural Arts Center opens two new fascinating exhibitions, Boundary Lines and One Woman’s Treasure. Get to know Molly Jo Burke and Nathan Gorgen, the couple featured in Boundary Lines, in this Q&A on City Pulse Columbus’ blog.
- The Sons of Gladys perform a tribute show for Elvis’ birthday at Natalie’s Grandview on Saturday, Jan. 8.
- That same night, the Tony Hagood Quartet plays the music of Dave Brubeck at the MAC.
- And Emergent Art & Craft opens a new group exhibition titled Renewal on Jan. 8. A great theme for a new year.
Please stay safe out there, everyone. Here’s hoping we’re all through this soon.
