We continue the steady march into fall and into my beloved cooler weather. I don’t know about you, but fall makes me come alive. I feel more active and interested in going out. So I searched ColumbusMakesArt.com and found these seven events happening this week!
- It’s a big week in Short North, of course, with HighBall Halloween Friday and Saturday nights, Oct. 11-12. It’s always a huge weekend, and this year should be no less spectacular. In addition to all the amazing costumes on the runways and on the streets, you’ll see Parker Louis, Nina West and Mojoflo performing!
- This Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11-12, the Columbus Symphony performs American Festival: Masterworks 2. I’m really fascinated by it; the performance combines selections from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess with Sanctuary Road, an oratorio using text from William Still, a conductor on the Underground Railroad who led over 800 slaves to freedom.
- Thursday, Oct. 10, (Not) Sheep Gallery hosts performances from three local poets, in conjunction with their current exhibition, The Masks We Wear.
- You can enjoy a day of art demonstrations, exhibitions, music, film, food and community at the Linden Community Art Day and Festival on Saturday, Oct. 12.
- ROY G BIV opens a new exhibition of artists Alex Youkanna and Undine Brod, This Is Now, with an opening reception on Friday, Oct. 11 tied into Franklinton Fridays.
- Wild Goose Creative hosts Goose on the Loose comedy festival Oct. 10-13. The event encompasses four days of improv and storytelling from local and national troupes.
- Phoenix Rising Printmaking Cooperative hosts an exhibition of Judith Steele’s work at the Grange Insurance Audubon Center, titled Whirlwind. The entire show is inspired by the maple seed! It runs through Nov. 10, although the opening reception is this Sunday, Oct. 13 at noon.
