Six events to brighten your days

I love and appreciate a sunny day in Ohio’s long winter, it boosts boost my mood. But, I need a plan B for the many days in between those rare gifts of light. For that, I turn to the arts. This week I offer up six events that caught my eye and are sure to brighten my weekend.

Virtual Events

Under the Radar Festival 2021, a production of New York’s Public Theater and presented by the Wexner Center for the Arts, kicked of Jan. 8 and runs through Jan. 17. This event features artists from around the world and a line up of free digital streaming performances.

Ryan Speedo Green presented by Opera Columbus Friday Jan. 15. The story of Green’s journey will be told in song, dramatic reading and in conversation between Green and Daniel Bergner, the author of Sing Your Life.

IRL Events

Need some brilliant color to brighten dreary winter days? The Franklin Park Conservatory now has 19 installations of Chihuly glass art on display, and they are leaving it up. The conservatory has reserved, timed entry to ensure social distancing and patron safety.

Russian Winter Festival I: Mozartiana, Friday Jan. 15 & Saturday Jan. 16 at the Ohio Theatre. Following safety protocols, only 300 seats are available per performance, so don’t wait to order tickets.

Last Call Events

Cincinnati Goddam, the 2015 documentary by April Martin and Paul Hill, is streaming with the Wex until Thursday, Jan. 13.

From the Outside In, is a collection of artwork by artists that created art in support of the Black Lives Matter movement on temporary plywood boards covering windows in downtown Columbus and the Short North. This virtual exhibition is available through Thursday, Jan. 14.
