Last weekend my family and I visited COSI to see Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes. It’s really phenomenal. If you go, try to take time to read everything. On the surface it seems like it’s a flashy exhibition about the movies, but it goes into depth about the history of Marvel, how comics are written and drawn, the myriad storylines and the huge impact the stories have had for decades. I teared up a couple times, seeing video clips of Stan Lee and costumes worn by Chadwick Boseman in Black Panther.
The exhibition has me excited for more events this week! Check out what I found on ColumbusMakesArt.com:
- The monthly storytelling night Speak Easy is this Thursday, Feb. 3 at Wild Goose Creative.
- The Nest Theatre hosts a couple improv shows this weekend. Friday, Feb. 4 is Anonymous, in which the audience shares anonymous secrets and the performers build scenes on them. And they’re performing two nights of a competitive show called Dual Duels, Feb. 4 and 5.
- 934 Gallery hosts the opening of its latest exhibition, Changing Room by Guen Montgomery, this Friday, Feb. 4.
- The Columbus Symphony performs Puccini’s La Boheme paired with visual work by video artist S Katy Tucker, Feb. 4-5 at the Ohio Theatre.
- Shadowbox Live opens ashow this weekend: a Pink Floyd tribute called Which One’s Pink (Feb. 3-27). This joins Best. Sex. Ever., running through Feb. 26.
- High Road Gallery opens a new exhibition highlighting members of the Worthington Art League. It’s open Feb. 4 to March 26.
- Sunday, Feb. 6 CoMo Dance performs its season finale show, which doubles as their annual gala.
- That same day the McConnell Arts Center chamber orchestra performs its latest concert, Forged in the Heavens.
This Saturday, Feb. 5 is Gallery Hop. Great time to visit several galleries at once:
- Sharon Weiss Gallery opens a show of new works by Frederick Fochtman and a solo show from Amy Adams. Both run through Feb. 27.
- Emergent Art & Craft opens a new exhibition of fiber artists called Common Threads, Feb. 4-27.
- Brandt-Roberts Galleries features artist Gabriel Pozzo for the month, Feb. 5-27.
A few things closing this weekend!
- The Columbus Museum of Art’s Vincent Van Gogh exhibition closes this Sunday, Feb. 6. If you haven’t seen it, go soon!
- Brandt-Roberts’ Chrome by Dylan Graves closes Feb. 6 as well.
934 Gallery, Short North Alliance, CoMo Dance and Wild Goose Creative are all Project Support grantees from the Arts Council.
