Well, we’re back at it! A new year has started. And while I get that the calendar flip is an arbitrary marker, I welcome any opportunity or motivation for a fresh start.
I’m hoping to continue supporting artists and experience the arts in this year, and scanning the calendars on ColumbusMakesArt.com, I can see we’re off to a good start:
- I’m a big believer in celebrating the full twelve days of Christmas, and The Early Interval helps with that in their virtual Twelfth Night performances, Jan. 6-11.
- (Not) Sheep Gallery has opened a new in-person exhibition titled Women’s Work: Redress, featuring a slate of talented artists. It’s open now through the end of February.
- Brandt-Roberts Galleries also kicks off 2021 with New Year | New Art in person, open now through Jan. 31.
- On Saturday, Jan. 9, you can tune in online to see a conversation with the artists from the Riffe Gallery’s Expanded Dimensions
- The Highline Coffee Art Spaces opens a new exhibition today that’s both virtual and in-person, featuring the work of Kelly Reichert. It’ll be up through early March.
- UCelli performs a virtual concert on Sunday, Jan. 10 called The Art of Four Cellos
- The Melissa Aldana Quartet performs a virtual concert on Jazz Arts Group’s new platform JAG.TV through Jan. 10
- The Wexner Center continues streaming a variety of films and conversations with filmmakers, from the animated short The Kite to Eleanor’s Secret to selections from the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival
And a quick check in on shows wrapping up this week:
- If you’re still in the Christmas spirit, Columbus Civic Theater’s virtual performance of A Christmas Carol is available online through today Jan. 6
- Studios on High’s in-person exhibition The Art of Gifting closes Thursday, Jan. 7
- Keny Galleries’ in-person Holiday Treats exhibition runs through Friday, Jan. 8
- Franklin Park Conservatory’s Holiday Lights and Conservatory Aglow wrap up Sunday, Jan. 10
