After this coming weekend, many of the holidays officially kick off, so however you celebrate you’ll be in the thick of the festivities. My family and I have already crammed in a lot of holiday fun. This past weekend we visited a drive-through light show in Delaware, did the church Christmas pageant (our boys were a sheep and a wise man) and saw Shadowbox Live’s fun and family friendly Cratchit. (Catch it before it’s gone – this is the last year for the original work.)
Last week Lacey shared a lot of the popular holiday shows going on this season. I scanned through ColumbusMakesArt.com and discovered more holiday and non-holiday fun:
- ROY G BIV Gallery opened two new exhibitions – Small Works and Cameron Granger – last weekend. Both run through Jan. 4
- Popgun performs two shows (an early and a late one) at Natalie’s in Grandview on Friday, Dec. 20
- The McConnell Arts Center hosts their popular holiday jazz performance, Mad Mad Men, Swingin’ Holiday Show this Thursday through Sunday, Dec. 19-22
- Hammond Harkins Galleries is running their annual Small & Wonderful exhibition, this year focused on CCAD grads and affiliates
- The King Arts Complex performs Langston Hughes’ Black Nativity twice on Saturday, Dec. 21
- The Gallery Players wrap up their production of A Gentlemen’s Guide to Love & Murder Dec. 22
- That same night, the Nest Theatre hosts Christmas in December, an improvised Hallmark movie parody show
- Two Columbus greats – Byron Stripling and Bobby Floyd – join forces for a special dinner plus music at The Refectory on Saturday, Dec. 21 and Monday, Dec. 23
I hope you find time to incorporate the arts in your holiday fun! Tag your discoveries with #artmakescbus or search the hashtag on social media to find what else is happening.
