Hey there — Nichole here. It’s my last week interning at Greater Columbus Arts Council, so I’ll be recommending things to fill up your weekend, and mine, from the ColumbusMakesArt.com event page for the last time. Of course, I’ll continue to check out the site — you simply won’t get my incredible recommendations.
My last Weekend Warriors somehow overlooked Greater Columbus 2019; Thankfully, the show doesn’t end until the 29th of September. This exhibition features Columbus artists awarded Individual Artist Fellowships by GCAC. Some of these artists were then selected into the Artist Exchange Program, which sends two artists to Dresden, Germany each year. I’ll be checking it out sometime this weekend at the Columbus Museum of Art during regular hours.
Check out one of three installments of Evenings on the Green, presented by the Ohio History Connection on Thursday, June 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. I’m particularly interested in the 19th-century games, but there will also be old-fashioned crafts, local food trucks, and the Ladies of Longford will be playing contemporary Celtic and traditional Irish acoustic music on the Ohio Village green.
Also starting on Thursday: Actors' Theatre of Columbus presents an American classic that I’ve actually never seen before. Little Women runs Thursdays through Sundays at 8 p.m. at the Schiller Park Amphitheatre. All performances are free, with donations encouraged at intermission.
Easton’s 20th annual Art Affair starts Friday, June 21 at 4 pm. and runs through to Sunday, June 23. I’m considering going to this gallery/street fair since I live nearby, and hope to catch an artist I didn’t get to see at the Columbus Arts Festival.
And out at the Alum Creek North Amphitheater, the Westerville Jazz Series kicks off Saturday, June 20 at 6 p.m. Featuring will be food trucks, entertainment and of course jazz music, this is the perfect starter event leading into the Jazz & Rib Fest in July, which I’m really excited for.
Nichole Moorman is a marketing intern for the Greater Columbus Arts Council. Wish her luck on her next journey!
