Autumn is the best season (that’s not an opinion), but spring can be so wonderful, too. We get these beautifully crisp days, perfect for taking a walk, playing outside or just breathing some fresh air.
The new season has me excited to see what’s happening in Columbus arts this week, and reviewing ColumbusMakesArt.com I’m finding a wonderful array of both virtual and in-person events.
- Today is St. Patrick’s Day! However you celebrate (if you do), please do so safely! You can experience a little local music when The Ladies of Longford perform today (March 17) at Fado Irish Pub at Easton from 9 a.m. to noon.
- Last weekend, Maroon Arts Group launched the latest offering in its Community Learning Group, Maroon Societies: African Rebellion in the Americas from 1500-1865. The virtual talks run every Friday at 6 p.m. through April 30.
- The OSU Department of Theatre, Film & Media Arts offers its annual showcase of new digital media, DigiEYE, streaming for free through the Wexner Center for the Arts through March 25.
- The Thurber House hosts speaker and author Joel C. Rosenberg virtually on Thursday, March 18.
- That same night, the Nest Theatre performs the comedic One Hot Dollar Game Show online at 8 p.m.
- Also starting Thursday, March 18, the Short North Stage performs a “Socially Distant Concert-ish” version of Monty Python’s Spamalot. They’re offering both limited, in-theater seating and virtual viewing options for the show, which runs through April 4.
- The Dublin Arts Council opened a public art exhibition last weekend called the 6-Ft Gallery Irish Showcase. On view through March 29, it highlights public art through downtown Dublin.
- The Columbus Symphony again offers limited seating to their latest concert, Schubert’s Welcome to Spring, at the Ohio Theatre, March 19-20.
- This week ProMusica begins streaming the next concert in its WinterFest offerings. Concertos For Two has its premiere at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 19, and will be available for on-demand streaming through April 1.
- State of the Arts Productions and the Abbey Theater of Dublin join forces to produce the musical Songs for a New World, performed in-person at the Abbey Theater March 19-27.
- On Saturday, March 20 at 11:30 a.m., the New Albany Symphony Orchestra performs a sensory-friendly concert titled A Whale of Time. You can buy tickets to livestream the performance, or see it in person at the McCoy Center for the Arts.
- If you’re traveling near Granville, you can catch the 17th Annual Bryn Du Art Show in person at the historic Bryn Du Mansion. It features dozens of artists, including several from Columbus, and runs through March 27.
