Use Policy

The Grange Insurance Audubon Center opened in August 2009 after 7 years of development. Columbus-based DesignGroup transformed the site from an industrial brownfield into a dynamic and graceful work of art, fusing seamlessly with its natural surroundings and providing a unique view of Downtown. The 18,000 square foot building houses a bird study center and viewing area, classrooms, and outdoor porches. The building’s design employs 3 principles: celebration of light, water, and material. Sundials, marking key points of the year, are spread throughout the building. Artful downspouts and rain chains, featuring diverse design materials such as steel, concrete, cedar, gypsum and recycled millwork, tie the building to nearby water features. Reflecting the surrounding ecosystem, a diverse array of materials are incorporated in the design, from steel and concrete to cedar, gypsum, and recycled millwork. The building’s single story design and east-west orientation make it energy-efficient as well as enchanting.
