Nancy's Home Cooking

Nancy's Home Cooking
Use Policy

This site was originally Field’s restaurant, which opened in 1946 and, it became Nancy’s Home Cooking in 1968. There is no menu at Nancy’s, and if you ask for one, you will be giving yourself away as a greenhorn. However, most of the breakfast menu is painted on the wall.
And, would you believe there is no Nancy? She was the owner decades ago. Today, “Nancy” is really Cindy King who took over the restaurant in 1970 and grew it into the Clintonville community staple it is today.
Nancy’s Home Cooking is painted Scarlet and Gray to support the Buckeyes, and it is often packed with OSU students and athletes. It is a diner of the stars, where the elite (and not-so-elite) of Columbus dine, and the brick walls are lined with signed photos of OSU sports heroes, Bobby Rahal, and other local notables.
Built around King’s love for the community, Nancy’s is a community hub where people speak to each other, even if they are strangers. Homeless people and those on a limited income also receive special treatment – and meals for firefighters and the homeless are among regular special events. When King retired in 2009, she handed the restaurant over to her niece Sheila Hahn to continue the family name and community mission.

Nancy's closed its storefront in 2020.
