The Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority today owns the largest contemporary collection of local art in central Ohio. All of the pieces are on display in the Greater Columbus Convention Center, the Hilton Columbus Downtown and the three Convention Center parking garages. The collection is the result of a communitywide call for art, overseen by a committee of community members and implemented by collection curators James and Michael Reese of Reese Brothers Productions. The artists represent the diversity of the Columbus community, cutting across age, gender and race.

@ ajsunami Statement: For well over a decade I have painted the subject of women with fanciful hair and/or body coverings over and over. Utilizing the same subject repeatedly has afforded me a consistent framework to explore a myriad of ideas that mostly pertain to the representation of women of color and the portrayal of women as active and powerful subjects.I render the faces and flesh of my subjects in oil and I use acrylic to paint the ground palette of the body, clothes, and background. To build texture I use everything including paper beads, maps, wood, fabric, broken mirrors, bullets, stones, breakaway glass from car accidents, and anything else I acquire. In most instances these objects that I use in my paintings come to represent specific themes in my work such as personal identity, spirituality, history and mythology of the African diaspora. In this piece I wanted to show the connection between people and larger universe. This painting is meant to evoke an ideal of love, peace, hope and beauty found in all things.
