Sign Your ART
An innovative community project where Columbus becomes the gallery!
Sign Your Art is back for 2017!
This first of its kind street art project engages local artists and members of the public to create a unique art installation across the entire city, bringing both local and national attention to the new arts marketing campaign: Art Makes Columbus/Columbus Makes Art and the Columbus Arts Festival.
The project is the brainchild of Columbus artist Stephanie Rond. In 2015 Rond and fellow project director, artist Catherine Bell Smith, helped more than 700 people make tiles at the Columbus Arts Festival. To provide inspiration, 64 tiles were created by professional artists in visual arts, music, dance, film and performance in advance of the festival.
After the Festival approximately 300 community tiles were curated and installed in groups of five, each set containing an inspiration tile and four community tiles, on street signs across the city for four weeks. The entire installation spelled out the word “ART” when pinned on a Google Map of Columbus.
This year we have invited a new group of inspirational artists to create tiles and we will be hosting a painting tent at the Columbus Arts Festival June 9-11 next to the Cultural Arts Center. Come on down and paint your tile for consideration in the 2017 installation which will go up in the same locations, again spelling “ART” across Columbus, in mid- to late July this year.
Visit the Google Cultural Institute to see the 2015 pieces installed.
