I don’t know about you, but the time change always messes me up. The daylight seems strange, I’m explicably tired and more confused than normal. Which has me looking forward to the weekend – when things will hopefully feel more routine again – and all of the activities it brings. I searched ColumbusMakesArt.com and here’s what I found this week:
Wednesday, March 13:
- Natalie’s hosts Bourbon & Blues, a night of 50s and 60s blues with the Rainmaker Blues Trio.
Thursday, March 14:
- Short North Stage opens its latest production, The Prom, a heartwarming show based on a true story, about a group of Broadway actors who travel to a small town to help an LGBTQ+ teen attend her high school prom.
Friday, March 15:
- BalletMet opens Asian Voices this weekend at the Davidson Theatre in the Riffe Center, starting March 15 and running through March 23. Seniors aged 55+ can attend a special dress rehearsal performance at 11 a.m. on Friday.
- Six String Concerts hosts singer-songwriters Leslie Mendelson and JD Eicher at the King Arts Complex.
- Boxland hosts two nights of concerts with local artist Lizzie, March 15-16.
- On Friday and Saturday, the OSU Opera Theatre program and the Worthington Chamber Orchestra perform Hansel and Gretel at the McConnell Arts Center.
- Also this weekend, March 15-17, Hixon Dance performs Black Angels at Columbus Dance Theatre. It’s a series of dance pieces performed with classical music that’s played live.
Saturday, March 16:
- 934 gallery opens its newest exhibition, Cast Shadow, featuring the work of Sarah Hiers, Clara Cecile and Allison Moore. An opening reception is 7-10 p.m., March 16.
- The Columbus Symphony and Columbus Museum of Art share Mozart to Matisse: Nordic Dawn at 2 p.m. on Saturday. It combines music from Finnish composer Jean Sibelius alongside artists from the Golden Age of Finnish Art, 1880-1910.
Sunday, March 17:
- And Sunday is St. Patrick’s Day, so you know there will be plenty of live music throughout the day! Ladies of Longford
play the Shamrock Club, while bands like The Drowsy Lads, The Kells and The General Guinness Band play Natalie’s.
BalletMet, Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus Symphony and Short North Stage receive an Operating Support grant from GCAC, while 934 Gallery and Six String Concerts receive General Support. Hixon Dance is a Project Support recipient.
