I draw intimate, solitary portraits of trees. The delicate details within the bark are drawn with pencil; branch by branch. Branches freed from foliage reveal a complex relationship with interaction and space that I find engaging to study. The linear forms against a stark ground isolate this dance between each branch. The trees that I select to draw are trees that I personally encounter. They have a curious quality in their bark or an irregular movement in their trunk that caused me to stop and interact with them, solely, removing them from their environment.
