My assemblages are best described as a form of American "junk art" if you will. Each one is a unique, one-of-a-kind, hand-made piece, created entirely from found objects: a disparate and ever-changing combination of thrift store finds, junkyard auto parts, old boxes left in basements, and random items collected from the side of the road. All these materials constitute a near limitless pallette for me, an abundance of colors from which to create.*
In making assemblages, I am giving new purpose and meaning to items that for the most part no longer have any, things that are broken or have out-lived their original value only to be discarded as trash or forgotten over time. In essence, I feel as though I am giving new life to things which are dead, by literally re-creating them into works of art.
*Some pieces also include one-of-a-kind black and white sepia-toned photographs that I made over 20 years ago, when I was more into photography and owned a darkroom.
