Phil Maneri

I am a professional musician active in Columbus Ohio for 4 decades. I'm involved in a variety of creative projects and have been in many over the years. Often I am the originator but even more often a collaborator.

My current artistic work is Phil@Filament. This is a live performance weekly series broadcast on Facebook Live from Filament at the Vanderelli Room in Franklinton every Wednesday from 7-8. The show entered its third year March 2020. I play Double Bass electrified with a variety of unusual signal processors, and am joined by different guests each week for explorations in musical improvisation. Guests are artists from diverse backgrounds, cultural musical, and artistic modality. The only structure is the clock which runs just an hour broken up every 10 minutes to allow conversation with the audience. This conversation contains questions, reflection, and criticism, that help the audience gain insight into the artists process, intentions, and history. These shows are live cast and saved on Facebook. The audience ranges from 100-500 people any given week. The quality of the recordings on FB live are not very good. Their permanence is doubtful. The Greater Columbus Arts Council has provided grant money for equipment to better record and archive the performances. 

Phil@Filament performances are a cross section of musical and artistic performance in Columbus. The participants being from a variety of backgrounds It is a snapshot of creative musical expression in Columbus at the time. Like all artistic endeavors it is constantly evolving. The conversations between musical sections provide valuable insight into the creative process, inform patrons about the artists, and help the listener learn how to absorb and understand improvised music. It is a unique weekly performance that many have requested having recordings of. Documenting them in the highest fidelity insures they will be available to a wider audience and hold up as well as possible over time. My intent is to archive the full performances in a way that allows for streaming and downloads, and also release edited compilations for wider distribution as stand alone recordings.
