Kim Mullett
Like a seizure, my artwork is guided by a strong force of motion. I was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 13 - a challenge I have tried to embrace and expose. I capture what I experience - the sharpness and repetition of a seizure.
Images and assemblages of monochromatic patterns represent the electric jolt and disarray of convulsions. I look, search, cut, collect, arrange, layer, and meditate until I figure out how to put the pieces together in a particular order. My technique is influenced by my late father who was a bricklayer and mason. His work inspires my use of materials - layering and building images. I use the creative process to tap into the expanse of the subconscious. Each piece expresses a form of movement and dimension, and I imagine the work traveling from a dream to a waking state.
