Let’s just face a few uncomfortable facts: Many great arts events in summer are outside, and it’s hot—really frackin’ hot. What this means to me is that an event needs to be worthy of any discomfort I might feel heading out of doors. Columbus has that covered.
Thursday, July 25, kicks off the weekend with several free and worthy arts events:
- Paragon Project is playing at the King Arts Complex’s Heritage Music Festival.
- Popgun and Honey & Blue, are at Columbus Commons.
- And, there’s an opening reception (in AC) for Natural Expressions at the Riffe Gallery.
Friday, July 26 brings Jazz Arts Group’s Jazzoo series featuring Dave Powers & Friends at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium; and The Imaginative Landscape opening at Keny Galleries with a reception.
On Saturday, July 27 Spacebar hosts the Damn the Witch Siren Gothic Summer Tour send off show with special guests Miller and the Hunks and Dominque Larue. I’m not familiar with Miller and the Hunks but I love Damn the Witch Siren and Dominique Larue .
It is still festival season and on Saturday there are no less than three music festivals in our fair city.
- What? Music and Arts Festival, at 400 W. Rich.
- 2x2 Hip-Hop Festival, at 3440 W. Broad St.
- GospelFest at the Genoa Park amphitheater.
Of course you can find even more worthy events, including movie series, music series, plays, exhibitions and more at columbusmakesart.com. If you want to share your favorite arts experiences, tag #artmakescbus.
