Go to the events calendar at columbusmakesart.com and you will find a cornucopia of arts events. I have cherry picked a dozen ripe events ready for your consumption, and you can hit five of them just by going to the Wexner Center of the Arts on Thursday—where there will also be nosh so RSVP.
- Thursday, Aug. 24, the Wexner Center for the Arts is hosting a free (but please RSVP) preview for multiple new exhibitions and projects that explore histories of kinship, migration and displacement: Harold Mendez: One Way to Transform and Two and Three; Sahar Khoury: Umm; Jumana Manna: Break, Take, Erase, Tally and Outpost Office: Color Block No. 2,
- Also see at the Wex, on Thursday, in the Black Box, Illya Mousavijad, Between a Lost Home and a Losing Destination. Mousavijad explores exile and migration in the Iranian diaspora using computer-generated animation techniques.
- Re Do and the Deal Breakers are performing free at the Columbus Commons Thursday.
- Friday, Aug. 25, Aetherial Jest Arts Council opens Twelve Angry Jurors at the Columbus Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $25.
- Saturday, Aug. 26, local gem Angela Perley plays the A&R Music Bar with The Vindys, tickets are $20. While you are there be sure to check out the four works of art on the southside exterior wall. They are created by Columbus-based artists as part of an annual exhibition collaboration between the Greater Columbus Arts Council and PromoWest.
- Sunday, Aug. 27, The Reaganomics play the Scioto Amphitheater park as part of the Dublin Arts Council’s free Sundays at the Scioto concert series.
It’s still festival season and this weekend we have:
- WonderBus Music & Arts Festival at Chemical Abstract Services, Aug. 25-27. Tickets are $130.80 for single day access and $286.80 for the full weekend (the ticket site notes that these are total prices—i.e. includes fees.)
- The 2023 Columbus Women&Girls’ Fest is at the MPACC Box Park, Sunday, Aug. 27. This free event includes arts & entertainment, activities, food trucks and more.
- International Festa-val is at the Franklin County Fairgrounds, Sunday. This is the first year for the festival, which is hosted by a nonprofit that serves new American families. There will music, dance, food and more at this free event. Tickets range between $5-$10.
