Hoster Stable and Worly Building

Hoster Stable and Worly Building
Use Policy

Believe it or not, this lavish Italianate building used to house the horse teams that distributed Hoster’s beer throughout the city. At the peak of operations, 125 horses called this building home. The towers on the corners of the Front Street façade mirror the one on the storage facility at Site 607 and contribute to the architectural unity throughout the brewery complex.
In 1903, brewery workers throughout the district went on strike over wages, hours, and hiring rights. The Hosters faced the brunt of the aggression because of their hardline stance against giving any say in hiring or firing to the workers. Apparently, the Hosters had caught some workmen in the bottling department nipping a few bottles for themselves from each barrel, and they decided to crack down. In retaliation, the striking workers blocked Hoster wagons laden with beer trying to exit the stable.
