Use Policy

The Gates Fourth United Methodist Church at 1234 Fourth Street was once known as Second German United Methodist. The cornerstone for the church was laid in 1895, and it was dedicated on May 3, 1896. Architectural firm Yost and Packard -- home of famed Columbus architect Frank Packard -- designed the building which features brick walls, gable slate roof, an octagonal tower with arched clear story windows, and a square tower at the Northwest entry. It also features round, arched windows of stained glass, a stone water table, parapet gable ends in stucco, and stained glass with a wooden tracery. Today, it remains one of the last German speaking parishes in Columbus. Nearby to the church was the site of was Ireman’s Meat Shop – a farm and slaughter house right in the middle of the neighborhood. Children of the 1960’s recall fondly the days when cows would “accidentally” get loose and run through the neighborhood
