Downtown Residential and Mixed Use

Downtown Residential and Mixed Use
Use Policy

Multiple examples of Columbus’ increasing downtown housing and mixed-use development can be found on this short stretch of South Front Street. Formerly a shoe factory from 1921 to 1974, The Julian’s 90 loft-style apartments now occupy the seven story building at 272 S. Front Street. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a tremendous example of the application of Historic Tax Credits to fund adaptive reuse, along with the LeVeque Tower and The Barrett apartments in Merion Village.
303 South Front Street transformed a former nightclub into a much more contemporary building with five stories of apartments, and 261 South Front Street has been developed to add 105 apartments around a narrow freestanding building that was previously surrounded only by parking lots. This mix of historic and contemporary development is creating a unique district of residential and retail that has revitalized the River South neighborhood. Development shows few signs of slowing down, so keep an eye on the quickly changing River South!
