As We Are

Use Policy

Conceived by Columbus artist and Columbus College of Art & Design professor Matthew Mohr and fabricated by Design Communications Ltd. of Boston, this dramatic 14-foot, 3-D universal human head is like nothing else in the world. As We Are is installed in the North Atrium of the Greater Columbus Convention Center and is an exceptional example of how art can be used to reflect the Columbus population and Columbus visitors. Made from ribbons of ultrabright LED screens, As We Are contains a photo booth capable of taking 3-D pictures. After visitors have their pictures taken, they step out of the booth to see their portraits depicted as the face of As We Are. Each portrait is roughly 17 times the size of the person represented. Through magnification, the sculpture recontextualizes each participant and asks all who see their portrait to consider who that person is and the life they lead.

Statement: As We Are is 14' tall with over 850,000 LED's that form the shape of the human head. Visitors can step inside the sculpture to have a 3D image taken of their head. Once they step outside of the booth, they can see their own portrait depicted on the giant face of As We Are.
