Historic Schoolhouse

Historic Schoolhouse
Use Policy

This eclectic-style schoolhouse opened in 1864 to help neighborhood children of German immigrants learn English. In 1872, the school opened as a regular elementary school, and at one point, was the oldest school in use in the Columbus City School District. In 1976, the school closed and the building was leased to the Greater Columbus Arts Council. In 1980, the City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department purchased the building for use as the Golden Hobby Shop, a gift and craft center for senior citizens. In 2021, the building was sold to the Roman Catholic Diocese to be used by neighboring St. Mary Catholic School.
