Brave the Cold for These Events

Listen, I know we’re all hating on these fridge temperatures, but I love them! I love the excuse to cozy up, build a fire, read a book. BUT… I do still love getting out when it’s cold, and these 11 events make great excuses to head out of the house.

  • On Thursday, Jan. 18, Natalie’s features a trio of songwriters – Megan Bee, Adam Remnant and Caitlin Kraus – performing their work.
  • Author Conrade C. Hinds speaks that same evening at the Bexley Public Library about his book Made in Ohio, exploring the many inventions created in our state.
  • Columbus Soul & Salvage plays Rambling House the next night, Friday, Jan. 19.
  • If you’re in the mood for stand-up comedy, you can enjoy Mom Dukes, an evening of stand-up from Single Mom Comediennes hosted at Columbus Brewing Company’s Beer Hall. It’s also happening Friday.
  • The Wexner Center also presents the next edition of the Found Footage Festival that night. The hosts share weird and wonderful VHS videos they’ve discovered.
  • Friday and Saturday the Columbus Symphony performs Time for Three with a “genre-defying” trio of musicians. Tickets start at $10 for this concert at the Ohio Theatre.
  • You can also see the Symphony perform on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Columbus Museum of Art. They’re performing as part of Mozart to Matisse, an exploration of American folk art through music and visual art.
  • If you have younger kiddos, Columbus Children’s Theatre’s production of Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat would be a great way to get out. It’s opening Saturday and tickets are only $5-10!
  • That same day you can visit 934 Gallery for the opening of its latest exhibition Don’t You Feel at Home. It features a trio of artists: Claire Flath, Panagiota Kourniotis and the collective Really Large Numbers. You can learn more about Kourniotis’ work here!
  • Also on Saturday, Six String Concerts hosts On a Winter’s Night, an evening of music featuring four different artists.
  • This Sunday, Jan. 21, pianist Orlay Alonso will take you Around the World in 60 Minutes with an international selection of tunes.

You can find all these events, or build your own weekend itinerary, on ColumbusMakesArt.com!
