German Village Society
The German Village Society Meeting Haus was built in 1923 by the Moose Lodge, a fraternal organization that occupied the building until its sale to the Woodmen of the World in 1942.
In 1959, the property was purchased by Thomas Littleton for his business, the Littleton Sign Company. After he purchased it, the original address of 120 East Willow Street was changed to the more prestigious 588 South Third Street. Littleton also added the front parking lot and the concrete block garage during his ownership. Littleton owned the building until 1987 when he sold it to the German Village Society.
The German Village Society then renovated the building, including all-new mechanicals and interior layout, as well as a new main entrance on the west façade.
Throughout the building’s history, the upstairs stage and meeting areas were used for a variety of neighborhood social events, including one of the earliest German Village Society meetings in 1960.
